Miami recorded 86 first-half scores versus the Grizzlies

Miami Heat earned a crushing 146-114 win over the Grizzlies in their initial basketball match after player Rozier was detained over suspected illegal gambling.

Trail Blazers head coach Chauncey Billups was additionally arrested as part of a broad federal investigation into sports betting. Both men contest the allegations.

But, the Miami team were not distracted as they scored 86 first-half scores to be ahead of Memphis by thirty-nine at halftime, the largest halftime lead in the franchise's 37-year history.

Bam Adebayo top-scored with 24 points and later said Rozier had the team's full backing.

"We stand behind him. Complete backing," Adebayo stated. "We are with him all the way. That's our brother at the end of the day."

Miami head coach Erik Spoelstra added: "Terry is a person who is very dear to everyone. He has made a real positive impact on our locker room.

"We send our thoughts and support for him as he faces the situation."

The Trail Blazers additionally won their initial match since the arrests, with Brazil-born Tiago Splitter stepping in as interim coach in Chauncey's non-attendance and leading the team to a convincing 139-119 win against the Golden State Warriors.

"We all had positive times with Chauncey and his coaching style," Splitter said. "Our thoughts are with him and his loved ones but our focus is on the game."

League Commissioner Silver 'Disturbed' over Recent Events

Addressing the arrests for the first time, NBA commissioner Adam Silver said he was "very upset" by the incidents of the past few days.

"Nothing is more critical to the NBA and supporters than the integrity of the game," he told Amazon Prime. "And so I had a pit in my stomach. It was very upsetting."

Silver further mentioned an league probe into Rozier's actions in spring 2023, when there was "aberrational betting" in a game he participated for the Hornets versus the Pelicans, found nothing untoward.

"We were informed by the regulators and the gambling firms," he continued.

"We then looked into the matter and were open regarding it. Although there was the unusual wagering, we, honestly, couldn't find anything.

"The federal government has subpoena power... [it] can impose penalties, can take various actions that the league office can't do.

"So, we've been working with them from that point. Naturally, what they revealed recently was an charge.

"Moreover 30 months after, he still hasn't been convicted of anything, in justice to Rozier.

"Clearly, it appears unfavorable, but he's been suspended, and so it is a balance here between protecting people's rights and conducting an inquiry."
