Palestinian-American Youth Freed After Nine-Month Period in Israeli Detention

A American-Palestinian teenager who spent nine months in imprisonment by Israel without being charged gained freedom.

Mohammed Ibrahim had just turned 15 when he was arrested last February throughout the West Bank territory, while he was vacationing from his Florida home for allegedly throwing stones at Jewish settlers, which he previously denied.

United States authorities applauded Mohammed's liberation.

Now sixteen years old, required hospitalization right after being freed, according to close relatives.

According to them, he appears visibly pale and thin, and experiencing medical problems contracted in captivity.

Via family representatives, the youth's uncle expressed the family's "immense relief".

Zeyad Kadur said the family had been "living a horrific and endless nightmare" during the entire detention period.

"At this moment, our priority is ensuring Mohammed receives the immediate medical attention necessary for his recovery after being subjected to Israel's abuse and inhumane conditions over several months."

The state department announced ongoing to extend consular services for the Ibrahim family.

{"US government authorities considers paramount to ensuring the safety of American nationals"," it added.

Twenty-seven US lawmakers endorsed a document to the state department and the White House, demanding more be done to release him.

Mohammed's parent, with four children operating an ice cream shop in Florida, had earlier stated his child admitted guilt about rock throwing after being assaulted by soldiers.

He had not seen nor direct contact following the detention, and only heard what had happened to him in detention through court documents.

He stayed lacking indictment in Ofer prison on the West Bank.

It is also home to adult prisoners, some of whom have been convicted regarding severe security violations and murder.

Approximately several hundred young Palestinian detainees being held in Israeli jails, per correctional service statistics.

Many have never been charged while advocacy organizations, as well as the United Nations, say some have suffered abuse and torture.

Following Mohammed's release, family representatives announced the family would also continue fighting seeking justice for their relative Sayfollah Musallet.

This young American-Palestinian according to health authorities died from beating by Israeli settlers amid clashes last July.

Mohammed and Sayfollah were employed together at their family's ice cream business in Tampa, Florida.

No one has been charged for the cousin's murder.

"We demand US authorities to ensure our family's safety," Mr Kadur said.
