Rob Edwards along with Gary O'Neil represent the initial candidates under consideration to replace the former manager as manager of Wolverhampton Wanderers.

The previous coach was sacked on the weekend following the team's 10-match winless beginning to the Premier League season.

Furthermore both candidates - each of whom have previous associations to the team - are among the names to be evaluated by the Wolves ownership.

The manager is currently at Middlesbrough, which would create a possible hurdle to his appointment at Molineux.

However the former Luton Town manager - who played over a century of appearances for the club during his playing career - is said to be a leading contender for the vacancy.

The mid-career manager is said to have support from the Wolves directors as they start the process of appointing a fresh head coach.

Gary O'Neil is also emerging as a surprise contender, although he would be a shock choice given he was released by the club in December last year.

The ex- West Ham player is out of work meaning Wolves would not be required to provide any buyout fee.
